What is science made sensible?
SMS is a partnership between the University of Miami and the Miami-Dade County Public Schools. The Miami-Dade Public School System is the nation’s 4th largest and one of its neediest. The program pairs graduate student fellows in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) disciplines with local middle school science teachers to improve the communication skills of the former and the inquiry-based teaching skills of the latter.
The fellows and teachers work together in the classroom and strive to make the science education experience interesting and exciting for middle school students. The fellow/teacher teams collaborate to develop new lesson plans, activities, hands-on labs, demonstration labs, and assist students with science fair projects.
